City raced into a 5-0 lead by the 36th minute - David Silva, Micah Richards and Aleksandar Kolarov also on the scoresheet.
Summer signings
Fernandinho,
Stevan Jovetic
and
Jesus Navas
all started for Manuel Pellegrini's side.
City play Bayern Munich in the final of the Audi Cup on Thursday after Pep Guardiola's side beat Sao Paulo 2-0.
While City will be pleased with their attacking edge, they will be concerned about some of their defensive play.
Two of their new boys combined to create David Silva's
opener, Navas beating his man to cross from the right and Jovetic was
able to pick out the Spaniard in the six-yard box for a tap-in.
Richards made it 2-0 after a surging run down the right
before left-back Kolarov drilled in a third after another flowing move.
Milan, who named a strong side including former City
midfielder Nigel de Jong, were unable to cope with City and the
impressive Navas then laid on another goal with a run down the right
before picking out Dzeko at the back post.
Dzeko made it five four minutes later after cushioning a cross on his chest before turning to fire in left-footed.
Milan had barely had a touch but then somehow rallied
to score three times themselves in the remaining nine first-half
minutes.
First, Stephan El Shaaraway broke clear to scuff a shot
past Joe Hart before he stayed alert to score a second two minutes
later when City stopped, waiting for a whistle that never came.
City, who played midfielder Javi Garcia as a makeshift
centre-half, shipped a third when Andrea Petagna fired in before
half-time.
Pellegrini made changes at the break, with Fernandinho, Jovetic and Navas all coming off.
The second half was largely quiet, with new signing
Alvaro Negredo coming closest to adding to the scoring
when he hit the crossbar from 20 yards.
